During the course of this week, I was out with a colleague visiting a customer. As we navigated the shop, I found myself transfixed by a specific shelf. It wasn’t the bright colors or the clever branding that caught my eye, but the grim, bold honesty of the packaging.

People were buying these products in bulk, loading their carts with a commodity that carried a terrifying disclaimer: “Smoking kills, Quit now” and “Tobacco smoke contains 70 substances known to cause cancer.”

I stood there for a moment, genuinely puzzled. The warning wasn't hidden in the fine print. It wasn't a suggestion or a vague hint of discomfort. It was a blunt prophecy of destruction. Yet, the exchange continued—money was paid, bags were filled, and the warnings were tucked away into pockets to be ignored for another day.

As I walked away, a heavy realization hit me: many of us are living our lives exactly like those customers.

We often look at the smoker with a sense of pity or judgment, yet we fail to see the warning labels stuck to our own habits, mindsets, and choices. God, in His infinite mercy, has hardwired a system of signs and warnings into our existence. He isn't a cosmic killjoy trying to limit our fun; He is the Creator trying to preserve the masterpiece.

When we feel the recurring burn of a toxic relationship, that is a label. When our bodies scream in exhaustion because we refuse to rest, that is a warning. When our peace is replaced by a constant, suffocating cloud of anxiety because we refuse to let go of control, we are essentially inhaling the very things that lead to an untimely end.

The mystery of the marketplace is the same as the mystery of the human heart. We ignore these signs because of the illusion of "later," telling ourselves that the consequences of a bad habit take years to develop and that we have time to change tomorrow. But tomorrow is a thief that eventually steals our today.

Sometimes, we stay because the smoke of our current lifestyle is familiar; we would rather choke on what we know than breathe the fresh air of a change we haven't mastered yet. We see everyone else doing it, and because the whole world seems stressed, bitter, or reckless, we assume that the divine warning labels must be exaggerations. They are not.

To kill yourself untimely isn't always about a sudden physical end; it is about the slow death of your vision, the erosion of your health, and the stifling of your divine purpose before its due season.

Every time you ignore a sign—whether it’s a physical symptom, a spiritual check, or a mental breakdown—you are paying a premium for a product that does not love you back. God has given us the "Quit Now" prompts through our conscience and our circumstances. He has set before us life and death, blessing and cursing, and the instructions are clear. The labels are visible.

It is time to stop being a loyal customer to the things that are designed to destroy you. You must identify your own version of that tobacco—that one habit, that one person, or that one mindset that carries a warning you’ve been ignoring. Respect the signs and do not wait for a crisis to validate what has already been written. If the label says it kills, believe it the first time. Trade the bulk-buy of destruction for the gift of life.

You were designed to last, and you were designed to flourish. Don't let your story end on a chapter that was meant to be skipped. Put down the poison, read the signs, and choose to live the full length of the beautiful life you've been given.
